A man of conscience
Josef Mayr-Nusser
18th March 2017 will see the beatification in Bolzano Cathedral, Italy, of Josef Mayr-Nusser, a member of the Society of St Vincent de Paul.
In 1937 he became president of the Bolzano Conferenceof the SSVP, spending a large amount of his time visiting the poor and providing them with both material and spiritual support. He was killed as a consequence of his refusal to swear the military oath of loyalty to Hitler when he was forcibly conscripted into the German army during the Second World War.
Pope Francis has recognised Josef Mayr-Nusser as another martyr for his Christian faith and conscience.
